About Us
The Denbigh Workshop registered as a charity in 2016, as the result of two working mum’s discussing the lack of quality, inclusive and affordable theatre & drama provision for the young people in our area. One of our main aims is to promote personal and community development through positive change and social inclusion. When we set up our inclusive youth theatre to provide an affordable creative activity for young people, we started with just four children, we currently have 36 young people who attend regularly, 5 places for young carers who have been fully funded to attend for the year thanks to CFIW.
In the summer we deliver fully funded Creative Arts summer school to 100 disadvantaged young people living in Denbighshire and have to date, received funding from The Neumark Foundation, Freeman Evans Trust, Denbighshire Leisure Grant, CFIW, Lottery, Tesco, Barclays, Denbigh Town Council, Welsh Church Act Fund and Clocaneog Windfarm.
We currently deliver term time weekly inclusive Saturday morning Youth Theatre at St Brigids school in Denbigh, and the Denbigh Community Choir at the Eirianfa Community Centre.
Most recently we have partnered with 3 other charities to form DEWC and delivered two years of projects for Working Denbighshire including Best Foot Forward in Parenting, Homeless to Happiness and Parents Retreat at Blossom & Bloom and You Can Do It at Denbigh Youth Hwb, and Girls Can Do It for young women in Rhyl.
Our theatre company has provided creative Education & Outreach for three projects for Chester Zoo to primary schools throughout the North West and North Wales. In the summer 2019 we participated in Wildlife Connections festival with Harry, Bee and Rose and 2018 we were chosen to be part of the Wild Worlds Festival promoting and tackling plant blindness with our family-friendly theatre show Tree, Plant Bee & Me.
We have been working with North Wales Police and PACT to deliver our hard-hitting workshop It Could Happen To You, to Year 12 & 13 pupils at senior schools throughout North Wales and to date have reached 500+ pupils.
